Four-Storey Building Collapses in Delhi’s Welcome Area, 8 Injured as Rescue Ops Continue

A four-storey building collapsed in the early hours of Saturday in the Welcome area of northeast Delhi, leaving at least eight people injured, including a one-year-old child. The incident occurred around 7:04 AM near Idgah, in Gali No. 5, Janta Colony. Locals were reportedly out on morning walks when they heard a massive crashing sound, and many rushed to rescue efforts even before emergency teams arrived. Among the injured were several members of a single family living inside the building, as well as individuals nearby when the structure gave way. The police confirmed that the top three floors collapsed while the ground and first floors were unoccupied.

Officials said the injured include Parvez (32), his wife Siza (21), their baby Ahmad (14 months), and his brother Naved (19 months), all of whom were rescued from the collapsed structure. Others injured include residents and bystanders like Govind (60), Ravi Kashyap (27), and their wives, Deepa and Jyoti. A nearby resident, Anees Ahmad Ansari, also suffered injuries after debris from the collapsed building struck his home. According to Additional DCP (Northeast) Sandeep Lamba, the building’s owner Matloob lived there with his family. The structure opposite also sustained damage due to falling debris.

Seven fire tenders were deployed to the site as the Delhi Fire Service initiated an extensive rescue operation under the command of DFS Chief Atul Garg. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and dust filling the air, with neighbors trying to locate those trapped. Asma, a resident of the area, recalled hearing a loud crash and finding her neighbor’s home reduced to rubble. Police and fire officials continue to search through the debris for any individuals who may still be trapped. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, while rescue teams remain on-site ensuring no lives are left unaccounted for.
