Mandla: A tragic incident was reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district, where a 28-year-old pregnant woman gave birth to quadruplets inside an auto-rickshaw while being rushed to hospital. All four premature babies died shortly after delivery, while the mother survived and is currently in stable condition. According to the family, Rajni Sindram, a resident of Naiganwa village, developed severe labour pain and an emergency call was made to the 108 ambulance service. However, they alleged that the ambulance did not arrive in time, forcing them to arrange an auto-rickshaw to transport her to the nearest health facility.
Rajni was first taken to the Ghutas Primary Health Centre, where doctors provided initial treatment before referring her to the Bichhiya Community Health Centre for advanced medical care. During the journey, she delivered four babies inside the auto-rickshaw with the assistance of an ASHA worker accompanying the family. Upon reaching the hospital, doctors examined the newborns and declared all four dead. Medical officials stated that Rajni was around 30 weeks pregnant and the babies were born prematurely, significantly reducing their chances of survival.
The grieving family blamed the delay in ambulance services for the tragedy, claiming that timely medical transportation could have improved the outcome. Rajni’s husband said they had no choice but to rely on an auto-rickshaw after failing to get an ambulance during the emergency. Hospital authorities confirmed that the mother is receiving treatment and her condition is stable. The incident has once again raised concerns over the availability and response time of emergency medical services in rural areas, with questions being raised about whether faster medical assistance could have prevented the loss of the four newborns.
