Flooded Village Road Forces 108 Ambulance Crew to Carry Pregnant Woman to Safety in Sangareddy

In a stark reminder of rural infrastructure gaps, staff of a 108 emergency ambulance were forced to physically carry a pregnant woman across a waterlogged road in a village of after floodwater made vehicular access impossible. The incident occurred between Bommareddygudem and Kodur villages in Pulkal mandal on Saturday, when backwaters from a nearby lake submerged the connecting road, leaving residents cut off at a critical moment. The woman, identified as Anusha, went into labour at home, prompting her family to call for emergency medical assistance.

According to officials, the ambulance reached as close as possible to Bommareddygudem, but the pilot, K Mohan, found the road submerged in knee-deep water and unsafe for the vehicle to cross. With no alternative route available and time running out, emergency medical technician P Anudeep stepped in, carrying a stretcher on foot across the flooded stretch. Assisted by family members, the ambulance staff carefully transported Anusha through the water to the waiting vehicle, ensuring she could be taken to the Mother and Child Care (MCH) Centre in Sangareddy for further treatment.

While the swift action of the 108 ambulance crew likely prevented a medical emergency from turning fatal, the episode has once again highlighted the vulnerability of villages during monsoon conditions. Locals said the road frequently gets submerged whenever water levels rise, effectively isolating the area and delaying access to hospitals. The incident has triggered renewed calls for permanent drainage and road elevation works, as residents argue that emergency services should not have to rely on physical risk and improvisation to save lives.
