Vadodara: A horrifying case of drunk driving in Gujarat’s Vadodara city has led to the tragic death of a woman and left several others injured. The accident took place late Thursday night near Amrapali Chaar Rasta in the Karelibag area, where a high-speed black car lost control and crashed into a two-wheeler before plowing into bystanders. The impact was devastating, killing 38-year-old Hemaliben Patel on the spot and severely injuring four others, including two children. The crash, caught on CCTV, has triggered massive public outrage, not just because of the reckless driving but also due to the driver’s shocking behavior after the accident.
According to eyewitness accounts and video footage, the intoxicated driver, dressed in a black T-shirt, stumbled out of his wrecked car and began shouting erratically instead of expressing remorse. In a bizarre display of disregard for human life, he repeatedly yelled, “Another round, another round!” while also chanting “Om Namah Shivay!” The disturbing footage quickly went viral on social media, sparking demands for strict action against drunk drivers. Police officers and local residents gathered at the crash site as emergency responders rushed the injured to the nearest hospital. Among the injured were a 12-year-old girl named Jaini, a 35-year-old woman named Nishaben, an unidentified 10-year-old girl, and a 40-year-old man. Their condition remains critical as doctors continue treatment.
Authorities wasted no time in arresting the accused driver, who is now in police custody. Joint Commissioner of Police, Leena Patil, confirmed that the driver was heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash. “A four-wheeler rammed into a two-wheeler, killing a woman on the spot. The accused driver has been arrested, and further investigation is underway. This is a clear case of drunk driving,” she told reporters. Police are now looking into whether the driver was under the influence of drugs as well. The shocking incident has reignited discussions on stricter laws against reckless driving and harsher penalties for offenders, with citizens demanding immediate legal action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
