Doctors Protest Over RG Kar Rape-Murder Case as Accused Get Bail

The West Bengal Joint Platform of Doctors (WBJPD) has announced a 10-day peaceful demonstration in Kolkata following the bail of two key suspects in the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case. The protest, beginning on December 17, will take place at Doreena Crossing and aims to demand the immediate submission of a supplementary chargesheet by the CBI. The WBJPD, representing five medical associations, assured authorities of a lawful and orderly demonstration, seeking police permission to set up a temporary stage while ensuring no disruption to traffic.

The nationwide outrage was sparked after an on-duty female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found dead on August 9. On Friday, a Sealdah court granted bail to former college principal Sandip Ghosh and ex-police officer Abhijit Mondal due to the CBI’s failure to file a chargesheet within 90 days. The WBJPD has also urged the police to ensure the safety of participants during the protest, which includes a march to the CBI office in Salt Lake.

This case has fueled massive protests across the medical community in India, raising questions about the efficiency of the investigative process. The delay in justice has led to widespread criticism and heightened demands for accountability from authorities.
