A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain in the alleged Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) tender scam. The Rouse Avenue Court directed Jain to furnish a personal bond of ₹2 lakh along with two sureties before his release. Jain had been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in connection with the case, and the court’s decision came after hearing detailed arguments from both the defence and the prosecution regarding the necessity of his continued custody.

During the hearing, Jain’s counsel argued that his arrest took place nearly 27 months after the FIR was registered, despite his cooperation with investigators throughout the probe. The defence maintained that the case revolved around administrative and policy decisions rather than criminal misconduct, adding that there was no evidence linking Jain to any proceeds of crime. The lawyers further stated that Jain was not a flight risk and assured the court that his presence during the investigation and trial could be secured through appropriate bail conditions.

The ACB opposed the bail plea, alleging that Jain played a key role in manipulating tender conditions for the expansion of sewage treatment plants, resulting in an estimated ₹123 crore cost escalation and unfairly benefiting a private company. Investigators also claimed to have uncovered financial irregularities, including alleged kickbacks, the use of intermediary firms, and the routing of funds through associated entities. Despite these allegations, the court granted Jain bail while the investigation into the Delhi Jal Board tender scam continues.
