Cyberabad Cracks Down on Illegal Constructions, 390 Buildings Demolished

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has launched a major crackdown on unauthorized constructions, demolishing 390 illegal buildings across the Serilingampally, Kukatpally, and Quthbullapur zones. The action was taken following complaints received through the Prajavani grievance platform. The demolition drive comes in the wake of a recent building collapse in Anjaiahnagar that claimed two lives, prompting authorities to intensify enforcement against unsafe and unauthorized structures.

According to CMC Commissioner G. Srijana, dedicated inspection teams have been formed to identify illegal constructions and carry out demolition drives five days a week. Officials found that many property owners obtained approvals for a limited number of floors but later added extra floors without permission. Several buildings were also constructed on small plots without maintaining the required setbacks, raising serious concerns about structural stability. In some cases, the buildings had even developed a noticeable tilt, increasing the risk of collapse.

A large number of the affected structures were being used as hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodations, particularly in areas with a high concentration of students and working professionals seeking affordable housing. Their demolition is expected to create accommodation challenges for many residents. The CMC has urged citizens and builders to obtain all necessary approvals before starting construction and to strictly follow building regulations to ensure public safety and prevent future legal action.
