Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) launched State-wide protests on Friday against the suspension of its senior leader and Suryapet MLA G. Jagadish Reddy from the Telangana Legislative Assembly. Party workers took to the streets, burning effigies and staging demonstrations in various districts, accusing the ruling Congress government of political vendetta. Jagadish Reddy was suspended for the entire Budget Session after allegedly making inappropriate remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad. However, BRS leaders claim that his suspension is a deliberate attempt to silence the opposition and divert attention from the Congress government’s shortcomings. They have demanded an immediate revocation of the suspension and called for a fair hearing on the matter.
BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) condemned the move, calling it an attack on democracy and the right to dissent. He accused the Congress government of suppressing opposition voices through undemocratic means and warned that BRS would continue its protests until justice was served. In multiple cities, party workers gathered in large numbers, holding banners and chanting slogans against the government’s alleged authoritarian tactics. Police forces were deployed in key areas to prevent any escalation of tensions. Despite the security measures, protest rallies were held in Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, and several other districts, disrupting traffic and normal activities. The opposition party has also hinted at escalating the agitation if their demands are not met.
The suspension of Jagadish Reddy has further widened the political rift between BRS and the ruling Congress. While Congress leaders justify the action as necessary for maintaining decorum in the Assembly, BRS sees it as a targeted political maneuver. Analysts believe that the incident could have long-term implications for the political landscape of Telangana, particularly as the State heads towards the next elections. With both parties refusing to back down, the situation remains tense, and political observers anticipate further confrontations in the coming days. Meanwhile, citizens remain divided, with some supporting the disciplinary action against the MLA and others questioning the government’s intent behind the move.
