Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reaffirmed his support for the BJP’s decision on the state’s new Chief Minister, dismissing speculation about disagreements among the Mahayuti alliance partners. Speaking from his native Dare village in Satara district, Shinde emphasized that the BJP leadership, in consultation with allies Shiv Sena and NCP, will reach a consensus on government formation. He assured that the Shiv Sena would back the BJP’s choice and called for unity to meet the people’s expectations following their electoral victory.
Addressing media queries, Shinde stated that his recent visit to his village was for rest and dismissed rumors of discontent regarding the new government’s formation. He reiterated that the massive mandate received by the Mahayuti alliance imposes a greater responsibility to deliver a government focused on public welfare. On speculation that his son, Shrikant Shinde, could become the CM, he clarified that discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other alliance leaders are ongoing, and all decisions will align with the coalition’s consensus.
The BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP alliance retained power in Maharashtra with a landslide victory in the assembly elections. The oath-taking ceremony for the new government is scheduled for December 5 at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend. While BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is seen as a frontrunner for the CM’s post, Shinde reiterated that the alliance remains united and committed to fulfilling the people’s aspirations.
