A controversy surrounding the use of animal fat in the famous Tirupati laddoos has reached the Supreme Court, with a lawyer filing a petition claiming it violates Hindu religious customs and hurts devotees’ sentiments. The petition alleges that the act is symptomatic of larger systemic issues in temple administration and seeks protection of Hindu religious practices and proper management of sacred institutions.
The controversy began after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu claimed animal fat was used in the laddoos under the previous YSR Congress government. A Gujarat laboratory report stated that the ghee used contained traces of beef tallow, fish oil, and lard. However, former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has denied the allegations, calling them false and a diversionary tactic by the TDP.
[news_related_post]The Supreme Court has been urged to intervene in the matter, with Union Health Minister JP Nadda seeking a detailed report on the allegations. The BJP has termed the alleged use of animal fat an unforgivable sin, while the YSR Congress has accused Mr. Naidu of damaging the sanctity of the Tirumala shrine.
