Journalist Bhalinder Singh Virmani, who was singled out by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a recent event in the US, has refuted Gandhi’s remarks about religious freedom in India. In a Facebook video, Virmani stated he never faced any restrictions in India on wearing Sikh religious symbols like a turban or kada. He emphasized that people of all religions have the freedom to practice their faith freely in India.
Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the Indian diaspora in Virginia, suggested that the struggle in India revolves around the right of Sikhs to express their religious identity. This comment sparked criticism, with Virmani asserting that Gandhi’s claims were misleading and that public figures should be more responsible with their statements. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also condemned Gandhi’s remarks, accusing him of spreading a “dangerous narrative.”
