UP Man Arrested for Alleged Acid Attack on Former Fiancée and Her Sister

Hapur: A man was arrested after allegedly throwing acid on his former fiancée and her sister in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, leaving both women seriously injured, police said. The accused, identified as Harsh Bhati, reportedly carried out the attack on Saturday night after the marriage between him and the woman was called off. According to the victims’ family, Bhati arrived at their house carrying acid and allegedly attacked the young woman as soon as the door was opened. When her sister tried to protect her, she was also targeted in the assault.

The victims’ father told police that the marriage proposal had initially been finalised but was later cancelled after the family allegedly discovered that Bhati was addicted to drugs. Following the cancellation of the wedding, the accused is alleged to have harboured resentment against the family. After the attack, family members heard the victims’ screams, overpowered Bhati while he was attempting to escape, and handed him over to the police before he could flee from the scene.

Police from Simbhawali police station reached the spot soon after receiving information and took the accused into custody. Both injured sisters were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Circle Officer Rahul Yadav confirmed that a case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the victims’ family. Police are questioning the accused and continuing their investigation to determine all the circumstances surrounding the acid attack.
