The bypoll results across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam, and West Bengal delivered significant political outcomes, with the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging victorious in both Dharapuram and Madurantakam Assembly constituencies. In Dharapuram, TVK candidate P. Sathyabama defeated DMK’s S. Suganya by 9,471 votes, while in Madurantakam, TVK’s Maragatham Kumaravel secured a commanding lead of more than 20,000 votes before the final rounds of counting. The results are being viewed as a major endorsement of the ruling party’s performance just months after it came to power in Tamil Nadu.
In Puducherry, the ruling All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) retained the Thattanchavady Assembly seat, with Ashok Anand registering a convincing victory by a margin of 8,482 votes. Meanwhile, in Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma established an unassailable lead of more than 1.76 lakh votes over AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, while the Congress candidate remained a distant third. The outcome further strengthened the BJP’s position in the northeastern state.
West Bengal also witnessed decisive victories for the BJP, with the party winning both the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly bypolls by massive margins. In Nandigram, BJP candidate Hasirani Rath secured a record victory by over 1.22 lakh votes, while the party also registered a comfortable win in Rejinagar. Leaders of the BJP described the results as a strong public endorsement of the party’s governance and growing support across different sections of society, making the bypolls a significant political milestone ahead of future electoral contests.
