Hyderabad: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana has made significant progress, with more than 74.62 lakh voters declared eligible for inclusion in the final electoral rolls after the hearing process. Election officials said the verification exercise is aimed at ensuring that only genuine and verified voters remain on the state’s voter list. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on November 9 after all pending cases are resolved.
Before the SIR exercise, Telangana had over 3.38 crore registered voters. However, when the draft electoral rolls were released, the total dropped to around 2.64 crore after more than 73.39 lakh names were removed under the Absent, Shifted, Dead, and Duplicate (ASDD) categories. Officials stated that nearly 1.72 crore voters had no discrepancies in their records, while about 92.88 lakh cases required further scrutiny through notices and hearings.
As of October 8, authorities had delivered more than 92.23 lakh notices and completed hearings for over 82.11 lakh voters. Among them, 74.62 lakh were found eligible for inclusion in the final voter list, while only 12,969 people have been declared ineligible so far. Decisions on more than 18.12 lakh cases are still pending and will be completed by November 5. Although the deadline for filing claims and objections ended on October 7, the Election Commission will continue the verification process before publishing the final electoral rolls on November 9.
