A woman from West Bengal has been arrested by Gurugram Police after a video she uploaded on social media sparked controversy and led to allegations of hurting religious sentiments. The accused, identified as Jyotsna Bibi, was working as a domestic helper in Gurugram’s Chakkarpur area. According to police officials, the video allegedly showed her making remarks about cooking beef for West Bengal’s newly elected Chief Minister while referring to restrictions on performing Qurbani. Following complaints from local residents, authorities registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
Police stated that a complaint was filed by a resident of Chakkarpur village who claimed that the video contained provocative and offensive remarks capable of disturbing communal harmony. Acting on the complaint, officials registered an FIR at Sector 29 Police Station and arrested the woman on May 30. Her mobile phone has also been seized and preserved for forensic examination as investigators continue to gather evidence related to the case. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional findings may emerge after the digital analysis is completed.
The accused was later produced before a local court and sent to judicial custody. On June 2, her legal counsel submitted a bail application; however, the court declined to grant relief at this stage. During the hearing, police opposed the bail request, arguing that the accused could potentially influence witnesses if released. Judicial Magistrate First Class Suman has scheduled the next hearing on June 8. The incident comes amid heightened discussions surrounding animal slaughter regulations, following recent guidelines issued by the West Bengal government regarding certification requirements for animal slaughter.
