In a rare and deeply reflective act, an 80-year-old man from has built his own grave while continuing to live a healthy and active life. Nakka Indrayya constructed the granite grave at Laxmipuram village, right beside his wife’s burial site, turning what many consider a symbol of sorrow into a personal statement of acceptance and preparedness. A plaque installed at the site carries a message reflecting his views on the reality of life and the certainty of death.
The grave, built at an estimated cost of ₹12 lakh with the assistance of masons from Tamil Nadu, stands as the latest in a series of constructions by Indrayya, who says he has already built several houses, a school, and a church during his lifetime. Speaking to PTI, he said building his own grave brought him peace rather than fear, adding that while such an act may cause sadness for others, it gives him a sense of completeness and happiness.
Indrayya follows a daily routine of visiting the grave, cleaning the area, watering plants, and spending quiet time there in reflection. A father of four who has organised nine weddings within his family, he said his decision was driven by a desire not to burden his children after his death. On a philosophical note, he remarked that death is inevitable and wealth holds no value beyond life, underlining his belief that accepting the end calmly is as important as living responsibly.
