A school teacher was shot dead by unidentified attackers on the campus of Aligarh Muslim University in a shocking incident that has raised serious security concerns. The deceased has been identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at ABK Union High School, which is affiliated with the university. The incident took place late Wednesday night near the Kennedy Auditorium, a busy area of the campus, police officials said.
According to AMU Proctor Mohammad Waseem Ali, Rao Danish Ali was walking with two colleagues when a group of masked men stopped him and briefly spoke before opening fire at point-blank range. He collapsed on the spot and was immediately rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The proctor said the teacher had gone to the AMU canteen for tea, which was part of his regular routine, when the assailants struck shortly after 9 pm.
Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar said police teams reached the scene promptly and launched a massive manhunt to trace the attackers. While the shooting was captured on CCTV cameras near the canteen, visibility was poor due to darkness and fog, making the footage unclear. Police are now scanning CCTV footage from surrounding areas and questioning the victim’s family members and colleagues to determine the motive behind the killing. Authorities said security on and around the campus has been tightened as investigations continue.
