Police Raids Shake BRS Ahead of Jubilee Hills By-Election

Just days before the crucial Jubilee Hills by-election, tension erupted in Hyderabad as flying squad teams raided the residences of former BRS MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy in Mothinagar and current MLC Takkellapalli Ravinder Rao in Kukatpally. Officials conducted the raids on suspicion of large sums of unaccounted cash being stored at their homes. As news of the operation spread, angry BRS workers gathered outside both locations, raising slogans and accusing the authorities of political targeting.

A video from the scene showed MLC Ravinder Rao confronting the officials, questioning the legality of the raid. “My house is not even in the poll code area—how can you enter?” he asked, calling the move an act of harassment. The incident quickly went viral, amplifying tensions in the already heated atmosphere surrounding the Jubilee Hills bypoll. Police sources, however, claimed the raids were routine checks mandated by the Election Commission to curb money distribution during elections.

The by-election, scheduled for November 11 with results on November 14, was triggered by the death of three-time BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath earlier this year. The BRS has fielded Maganti Sunitha as its candidate, while the Congress nominated V Naveen Yadav, and the BJP announced Lankala Deepak Reddy. AIMIM has officially extended support to the Congress candidate, making this contest a high-stakes political battle in Hyderabad.
