Three New Judges Sworn In at Delhi High Court, Strengthening Judicial Bench

In a significant addition to the Delhi High Court’s judicial strength, three new judges — Justices Dinesh Mehta, Avneesh Jhingan, and Chandrasekharan Sudha — took the oath of office on Tuesday, October 28. The ceremony was administered by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, who welcomed the judges to their new roles at the Delhi High Court. The appointments mark another step by the judiciary toward enhancing the court’s efficiency amid a growing caseload and rising demand for speedy justice.

Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Avneesh Jhingan were transferred from the Rajasthan High Court, while Justice Chandrasekharan Sudha previously served at the Kerala High Court. Their induction follows the recent transfer and swearing-in of six other judges, including Justices V Kameswar Rao, Nitin Wasudeo Sambre, Vivek Chaudhary, Om Prakash Shukla, Anil Kshetarpal, and Arun Kumar Monga. The inclusion of experienced judicial officers from different states is expected to bring broader perspectives and strengthen the overall legal framework of the Delhi High Court.

With these new appointments, the Delhi High Court’s bench capacity has further expanded, allowing for better case distribution and reduced backlog. Judicial experts have welcomed the move, noting that the addition of seasoned judges from other high courts will improve both the diversity and efficiency of decision-making. The swearing-in ceremony underscores the judiciary’s continued focus on maintaining institutional integrity, ensuring justice delivery, and upholding public trust in one of India’s busiest high courts.
