Telangana Minister Konda Surekha Apologises to CM After Daughter’s Controversial Remarks

Telangana Endowments Minister Konda Surekha on Thursday issued a formal apology to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy following controversial remarks made by her daughter, Sushmita, targeting him and other senior Congress leaders. Addressing the media after the cabinet meeting, Surekha emphasized that the episode was the result of a “misunderstanding” and that her daughter’s statements were made in anger. She sought to downplay any perceived rift within the party, stressing that, like any family, differences may arise, but they would work together to maintain unity and cohesion.

The apology comes in the wake of a tense period for the minister, which began after her former Officer on Special Duty (OSD), N Sumanth, was terminated amid corruption allegations and subsequent police investigations. Surekha had met CM Revanth on October 20 to discuss the matter and clarify any concerns, signaling her intent to prevent the controversy from escalating further within party ranks. By framing the issue as a personal family disagreement rather than a political conflict, she attempted to mitigate the impact on Congress’s image in Telangana.

Political observers note that this incident underscores the delicate balancing act faced by ministers in the state, where personal, familial, and political dynamics frequently intersect. Surekha’s move to publicly apologise reflects a broader strategy to maintain stability and prevent dissent from being amplified by opposition parties or the media. While Sushmita’s remarks drew immediate attention, the minister’s statement sought to reassure both the public and party leadership that internal disagreements would be resolved amicably, preserving the appearance of unity within Telangana Congress
