Weeks after her suspension from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Telangana Jagruthi president and former MLC K Kavitha has announced a major restructuring of the organisation’s state committee. The appointments, made on the occasion of Dusshera, reflect a strong emphasis on social justice, with over 80 percent of posts allotted to leaders from backward and marginalized communities. Prominent among the new leaders is Scheduled Tribe (ST) leader Lakavat Roop Singh, who has been named the Working President of Telangana Jagruthi. This move signals Kavitha’s intent to consolidate her political space outside the BRS, after tensions with party leadership and her open criticism of senior leader Harish Rao.

In addition to reshaping the state executive, Kavitha unveiled new appointments for district-level women’s leadership within Telangana Jagruthi. The list includes Pittala Shyamala for Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Harika Rao for Peddapalli, Manjula Rao for Hanumakonda, Nukala Rani for Warangal, Ankamsivarani for Karimnagar, Donakonda Sujatha for Jagtial, Bandari Lavanya for Ranga Reddy, Chiluka Manjula Reddy for Nagarkurnool, and Thineta Sandhya Reddy for Medchal. The expansion of women’s representation is being viewed as part of Kavitha’s broader strategy to create a socially inclusive and gender-sensitive platform within the organisation.

Kavitha also announced that she would soon embark on a statewide tour aimed at engaging with intellectuals, poets, artists, social workers, and domain experts across Telangana. According to her statement, this outreach will help shape the third and final phase of the Telangana Jagruthi committee. The tour is expected to generate momentum for Kavitha as she positions herself in the political landscape, with speculation rife that she may eventually float her own party. For now, however, Kavitha’s focus remains firmly on revitalising Telangana Jagruthi, the socio-cultural body she founded during the statehood movement.
