A tragic incident unfolded in Antharam village, Zaheerabad, Telangana, where a 15-year-old Muslim girl, Aliya Begum, lost her life while attempting to protect her father from a violent mob attack. The attack occurred on February 11 when Mohammed Ismail, Aliya’s father, was confronted by two men, Veera Reddy and Vijay Reddy, accompanied by nearly 40 others. The altercation reportedly started after Ismail was seen urinating in open fields near the assailants’ residence. The situation escalated quickly, and the mob turned aggressive, attacking Ismail with stones and blunt objects. Witnessing the brutal assault, Aliya rushed to her father’s defense but was struck multiple times, sustaining severe injuries. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and battled for her life for four days before succumbing to her injuries on February 15.
The gruesome attack has sparked outrage within the community, with political leaders and activists demanding swift justice. AIMIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, who visited the grieving family, described the incident as a targeted act of violence and called for stringent legal action. He later met Superintendent of Police, Sangareddy District, Ch. Rupesh, urging the authorities to ensure the perpetrators face the full extent of the law. In response to pressure from community leaders and legal activists, the police registered a case against Veera Reddy and Vijay Reddy. Following sustained efforts from the All India Milli Council and legal representatives, including Adv. Afsar Jahan and Adv. Sujaath, the two accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Community leaders have vowed to continue the legal battle, asserting that justice must be served and that the incident should not be dismissed as an isolated act of violence.
Aliya Begum, a 10th-standard student preparing for her board exams, has now become a symbol of resilience and courage. Her untimely death has reignited concerns about mob violence and religious tensions in Telangana. The All India Milli Council’s legal team has advised the bereaved family not to accept any compensation that undermines their right to full justice. Community members have called for stronger legal protections against mob violence and for authorities to take decisive action to prevent such incidents in the future. The case has drawn widespread condemnation, with civil rights organizations and activists stressing the urgent need for legal reforms and stricter enforcement against communal violence.
