Senior IPS officer VC Sajjanar formally took charge as the new Commissioner of Hyderabad Police on Tuesday, September 30, marking a significant change in the city’s top law enforcement leadership. A 1996-batch officer from the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh cadre, Sajjanar was later allotted to the Telangana cadre after the state’s bifurcation. Known for his dynamic service record and strong administrative skills, he steps into the role after serving as the Managing Director of the Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) for four years. He replaces outgoing Commissioner CV Anand, who has been appointed as the Principal Secretary of the Home Department.

Sajjanar brings with him vast field experience, having started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Jangaon, Warangal, and Pulivendula in Kadapa district. Over the years, he served as Superintendent of Police in multiple key districts, including Nalgonda, Guntur, Kadapa, Warangal, and Medak, where he earned a reputation for effective policing and strong community engagement. His professional journey also includes critical postings such as SP of the Crime Investigation Department’s Economic Offences Wing, SP of OCTOPUS (Organisation for Countering Terrorist Operations), and Commandant of the 6th Battalion of APSP at Mangalagiri.

On promotion to senior ranks, Sajjanar took on important responsibilities as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Inspector General (IG) of Police, serving in the Intelligence Department until March 2018. His experience in intelligence and counter-terror operations is expected to play a vital role in managing Hyderabad’s complex security environment. With his new assignment, citizens and analysts alike anticipate that Sajjanar will focus on strengthening law and order, enhancing public safety, and adopting modern policing strategies to meet the challenges of a rapidly growing metropolitan city.
