Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district have registered a case against two men after a Dalit man alleged that he was assaulted while staying and offering prayers at a Kali temple. According to the complaint filed by Nageena Ram, a resident of Sardaspur village, the accused allegedly abused him with caste-based slurs and attacked him on Sunday evening. The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

He alleged that during the incident, the two accused objected to his presence at the temple, assaulted him, and used caste-related abusive language. The complaint further claims that when people working in nearby fields approached the area, the accused allegedly locked him inside the temple premises before later going to his house and threatening to kill him.
