Symbiosis University Places Professor on Leave Amid Allegations, Orders Inquiry

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) has placed a professor from its Nagpur campus on forced leave after allegations surfaced that he sent inappropriate messages to a former female student and encouraged her to follow Islamic religious practices. The university has constituted a high-powered committee to investigate the matter and stated that further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry. Sources also indicated that the professor has submitted his resignation.

According to police officials, neither the former student nor her father has filed a formal complaint or submitted evidence despite repeated requests from authorities. Police said the allegations include objectionable messages and claims that the professor encouraged the student to adopt certain religious practices. However, officials emphasized that these allegations have not been verified due to the absence of a complaint and supporting evidence.

The issue sparked protests by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), who demanded strict action against the professor. Police intervened when protesters gathered at the university campus and facilitated discussions with the administration. The university reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of students and staff, while police confirmed that the former student had left the institution about six months ago and that the investigation will proceed based on the committee’s findings and any evidence that may emerge.
