Telangana Rain: 16 Dead in Heavy Downpour; CM Seeks ‘National Calamity’ Tag

At least 16 people have died due to heavy rain in Telangana, prompting Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to request that the Centre declare the floods a national calamity. The state government announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased and sought ₹2,000 crore in immediate assistance from the Centre.

The floods caused widespread damage to crops, properties, and infrastructure, severely disrupting rail and road links between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. In flood-hit areas like Khammam, homes were inundated, and the overflowing Munneru rivulet worsened the situation. The CM has called on PM Narendra Modi to visit the affected areas and has urged further support for the state’s recovery efforts.
