Police in Telangana’s Vikarabad district thwarted a farmers’ protest march, known as Maha Padayatra, against the proposed Pharma Village on Wednesday. The farmers, who have been protesting for 27 days, are concerned that the Pharma Village will cause environmental pollution. They argue that the land acquisition plan threatens their livelihoods and have vowed to continue protesting until the government withdraws its proposal [1).
The protest, supported by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) opposition party, was stopped near Hakimpet in Dudyal Mandal, where the government plans to establish Pharma Village, a cluster for pharmaceutical companies. BRS leader Patnam Narender Reddy and several protesters were arrested.
[news_related_post]The controversy surrounding Pharma Village has been ongoing, with allegations that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s brother, Tirupathi Reddy, pressured farmers to give up their land. The previous BRS government had proposed the Hyderabad Pharma City project, but the current Congress government has opted for Pharma Villages instead, sparking accusations of a land scam involving thousands of crores.
