In a major crackdown on illegal online betting, the Telangana CID apprehended eight operators running betting apps across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Punjab. The raids, conducted across six locations, targeted operators who allegedly facilitated large-scale gambling resulting in significant financial losses for users. Several electronic devices and hardware used for the operations were seized during the operation, which officials described as a first-of-its-kind effort in the state.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities attempting to trace the main culprits, who are suspected to be operating from overseas. CID Additional Director General Charu Sinha emphasized that the operation marks a significant step in tackling the growing menace of online betting apps, which have increasingly affected citizens financially and socially. Law enforcement agencies are coordinating to prevent the continuation of such illegal activities and to bring all responsible parties to justice.
The arrests have sent a strong message to online gambling networks, highlighting the state’s commitment to cracking down on illegal betting activities. The CID has urged the public to report suspicious platforms and warned against participation in unregulated online betting. As investigations continue, authorities are examining the seized hardware and digital evidence to uncover the full extent of the network and its connections, both within India and abroad.
