The Supreme Court of India has strongly condemned YouTube personality Ranveer Allahbadia for his alleged offensive comments on comedian Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent. The apex court remarked that his words reflected a “perverted mind” and expressed concern over the degrading language used. While the court protected him from immediate arrest, it did not hold back in its criticism, stating that such behavior cannot be justified simply because someone is popular. The bench emphasized that society should not tolerate such conduct and questioned whether anyone would accept such language in public discourse.
The court, however, granted Allahbadia some relief by staying his arrest in cases related to the same allegations. The bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh, directed him to submit his passport to the Thane police and barred him from leaving the country without prior approval. The judges also prohibited him from airing further content on YouTube until further orders. Justice Kant stated that the remarks were not just inappropriate but also deeply shameful, bringing embarrassment to families and society as a whole.
Allahbadia had approached the Supreme Court seeking protection from multiple FIRs lodged against him and requested that they be clubbed together. The court acknowledged the need for due legal process but maintained that his remarks were inexcusable. It further assured that any threats against him would be handled according to the law. The controversy has sparked widespread debate about the responsibility of public figures and the ethical limits of content creation in the digital era.
