Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, along with DMK MP Kanimozhi, joined the Congress-led Voter Adhikar Yatra in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on Wednesday. Welcoming the yatra alongside Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Stalin said that Bihar was a land “heavy with every stolen vote,” and that the campaign symbolized people’s suffering being transformed into strength. Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav rode motorcycles as the yatra made its way through the streets, drawing large crowds who lined up to welcome them. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also seen riding pillion with her brother Rahul as the yatra entered Muzaffarpur from Darbhanga district.
The Voter Adhikar Yatra, launched on August 17 from Sasaram, is a 1,300-km-long march set to conclude in Patna on September 1 with a major rally. It aims to highlight electoral rights and alleged injustices against the poor. The participation of Stalin and senior DMK leaders added a southern dimension to the yatra, symbolizing opposition unity ahead of crucial political battles. With powerful optics of Congress, RJD, and DMK leaders standing together, the campaign sought to project solidarity among opposition parties against the BJP-led NDA.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai countered Stalin’s Bihar visit by releasing a compilation of what he claimed were “anti-Bihar” and “anti-Sanatana” remarks made by DMK leaders and allies. He challenged Stalin to repeat controversial comments made by his son Udhayanidhi Stalin and MP Dayanidhi Maran on Sanatana Dharma and Bihari workers while sharing the stage with Rahul Gandhi. Annamalai’s attack revived past controversies, including Udhayanidhi’s 2023 remark comparing Sanatana Dharma to diseases like dengue and malaria, which had sparked legal and political battles. The BJP sought to frame Stalin’s presence in Bihar as hypocritical, pressing him to answer for his party’s past remarks even as he championed voter rights in the state.
