Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has resigned from all party positions as well as his primary membership, citing pressing financial and personal circumstances. In a resignation letter addressed to Bihar BJP president Nitin Nabin and shared on his social media account on Monday, Poonawalla said he had reached the decision after prolonged consideration. He revealed that he had initially submitted his resignation on July 30, but the party leadership had requested him to reconsider and continue in his role. After further reflection, however, he decided to make his resignation final.
Explaining his decision, Poonawalla said he plans to move into the private sector to address his financial and personal commitments. Despite stepping away from active politics, he made it clear that his resignation should not be viewed as a disagreement with the BJP’s ideology or leadership. He stated that he would continue to support the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the work being carried out by the BJP, indicating that his departure was driven by personal circumstances rather than political differences.
Speculation over Poonawalla’s future had intensified in recent weeks after he removed references to the BJP from his social media profile on July 31, prompting widespread discussion about a possible exit. His official resignation has now confirmed those reports and marks the end of his tenure as one of the party’s prominent national spokespersons. While the BJP has not yet issued a detailed response to his resignation, Poonawalla’s move is expected to draw attention within political circles as he transitions from public life into the private sector.
