Road Collapses in Banjara Hills After 10,000-Litre Water Tanker Triggers Nala Cave-In

A significant portion of the road at Naveen Nagar in Banjara Hills collapsed on Tuesday after a 10,000-litre private water tanker ran over a weakened nala, causing it to cave in. The incident occurred around 11 AM, disrupting traffic in the upscale Hyderabad locality. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. According to initial reports, the tanker was arriving from Maheshwari Chambers, and the heavy load proved too much for the already weakened structure beneath the road. The driver of the tanker fled the scene shortly after the incident.

Officials from the GHMC and Hyderabad Traffic Police rushed to the site to cordon off the area, assess damage, and redirect traffic. Early investigations reveal that the underlying drainage infrastructure may have deteriorated due to prolonged neglect and stress from frequent heavy vehicle movement. GHMC stated that recent heavy rainfall on Monday night may have further compromised the nala’s integrity. Several vehicles were stranded in the area, and residents were advised to use alternative routes until repairs are completed.

Local residents expressed outrage over the incident, blaming the collapse on municipal negligence. They claimed repeated complaints regarding the poor condition of roads and underground drainage systems in the area were ignored by authorities. The cave-in has renewed calls for improved infrastructure maintenance in one of Hyderabad’s most elite neighborhoods, especially ahead of the monsoon season.
