After days of extreme heat, parts of Hyderabad finally received much-needed relief as scattered rains lashed several areas on Saturday evening. Localities including Malakpet, Nampally, Abids, Himayatnagar, Khairatabad, Charminar, Alwal, Kapra, and Secunderabad witnessed light to moderate showers, bringing down temperatures that had been soaring dangerously high. The sudden weather shift provided immediate comfort to residents struggling under relentless heat conditions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue across Hyderabad and surrounding areas under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. Forecasts indicate that this pattern may persist from April 19 to April 23, suggesting a temporary break from the harsh summer spell. Weather experts have also noted that such pre-monsoon showers are not unusual but can be unpredictable in intensity and coverage.
Let’s be clear though—this relief is temporary, not a solution. A couple of rainy evenings won’t erase the underlying heatwave conditions. Just days ago, temperatures crossed 43°C across Telangana, with most districts staying above 41°C. Unless there’s sustained weather change, the heat will return just as aggressively. People treating this as “summer is over” are misreading the situation—this is just a short pause, not the end of extreme heat.
