An FIR has been filed against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Guwahati for his controversial remarks against the BJP and RSS. The complaint, lodged by Monjit Chetia, accuses Gandhi of undermining India’s sovereignty by claiming that the BJP and RSS have “captured every single institution.” These remarks were made during the inauguration of the Congress’s new headquarters in Delhi, where Gandhi criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comments linking the Ram Temple consecration to India’s independence.

The FIR, registered under Sections 152 and 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alleges that Gandhi’s statements threaten the integrity and stability of the nation. The complainant argued that as a prominent political figure, his words go beyond ordinary criticism, warranting immediate legal action. These charges classify as cognizable and non-bailable offenses.

Reacting strongly, BJP president JP Nadda accused Gandhi of trying to divide the nation. The remarks have ignited a political storm, with BJP leaders condemning them as anti-national, while Congress leaders have dismissed the FIR as an attempt to silence dissent. This development comes amidst escalating political tensions ahead of key state elections.
