Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday in connection with a stampede at the premiere of his highly anticipated film Pushpa 2 in Hyderabad. The tragic incident, which occurred on December 4, claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman, M. Revathi, and left her son critically injured. Police investigations revealed that the chaos unfolded due to the lack of proper crowd management by the theatre’s management and the actor’s team. Arjun’s sudden arrival at Sandhya Theatre, accompanied by his personal security, triggered a surge among fans, resulting in the stampede.
The Hyderabad Police registered a case under sections related to culpable homicide and voluntarily causing hurt. Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshansh Yadav emphasized that stringent action would be taken against all those responsible for the mismanagement. Sandhya Theatre’s owner and two staff members were already arrested prior to Arjun’s detention. The actor’s attempt to clear his name in the FIR by approaching the Telangana High Court has not progressed, and he is set to be produced before a magistrate later in the day.
Revathi’s grieving family shared that the mother had accompanied her son, a die-hard fan of Allu Arjun, to watch the premiere. The stampede reportedly escalated when Arjun’s security team attempted to control the crowd by pushing them back, worsening the situation. Authorities have criticized the lack of separate entry and exit routes for the actor’s entourage, holding the theatre accountable for negligence. The incident has sparked a broader conversation on safety at public events.
