Suhas Shetty, the prime accused in the high-profile Fazil murder case and a known rowdy sheeter, was brutally killed on Thursday night in Mangaluru by a group of unidentified assailants. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm when Shetty was travelling with five companions. Armed attackers in a four-wheeler and a pickup truck ambushed their vehicle and launched a swift and deadly assault on Shetty. Despite immediate medical attention at AJ Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, according to police officials.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed that four separate police teams have been deployed to track down the perpetrators. Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders across Mangaluru under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS), 2023, effective from 6:00 am on Friday until May 6, to prevent any further unrest. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal noted that an investigation is underway and that the motive behind the attack is still unclear.
The murder has escalated tensions in the region, prompting Bajrang Dal to call a bandh, during which stone-pelting incidents were reported on public buses. Police have heightened security to maintain law and order. Citizens have been urged to stay calm while the investigation continues.
