Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor officially took oath as the Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from the Bankipur constituency on Monday. The oath was administered by Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar at the Vidhan Sabha in Patna. After the ceremony, Kishor described it as a proud moment to join the House that has been represented by leaders such as Krishna Sinha, Karpoori Thakur, Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan and Sushil Kumar Modi. He said the responsibility of serving the people of Bihar was as important as the honour itself.
Kishor’s entry into the Assembly follows his impressive victory in the August 3 Bankipur bypoll, marking a successful electoral debut. He secured 64,151 votes and defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by a margin of 19,324 votes. The result was seen as a significant setback for the BJP, which had retained the Bankipur seat continuously since 1995. The by-election became necessary after former MLA and BJP president Nitin Nabin resigned the seat following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
With his first electoral success, Prashant Kishor now begins his legislative career after years as a political strategist. His victory has strengthened the Jan Suraaj Party’s position in Bihar politics and raised expectations about its future role in the state. Political observers will closely watch how Kishor performs inside the Assembly and whether he can translate his campaign promises into effective governance.
