An autorickshaw was allegedly set on fire in Hyderabad’s Jilelaguda area during the early hours of Monday, triggering concern among local residents. The incident took place around 3 a.m. at DNR Colony under the Meerpet police station limits. After spotting the vehicle engulfed in flames, the owner immediately alerted the police by dialling 100. Before emergency personnel reached the spot, nearby residents acted quickly and managed to bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to surrounding vehicles and property.
In his complaint to the police, the autorickshaw owner alleged that his son-in-law was responsible for setting the vehicle ablaze following an ongoing family dispute. Based on the complaint, Meerpet police registered a case and booked the accused under Section 326(f) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with causing mischief resulting in damage by fire or explosive substances. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the accused, stating that he has not yet been arrested and the investigation is still underway.
A video circulating on social media showed the autorickshaw completely gutted by the fire while the distressed owner inspected the damaged vehicle. Police officials confirmed that they received the emergency call in the early morning and that locals had already controlled the blaze before officers arrived. Investigators are now examining all evidence and statements to determine the exact sequence of events and establish the motive behind the suspected act of arson.
