PM Modi Pays Tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee on His 100th Birth Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth centenary, lauding his contributions to Indian politics and governance. In his tribute, PM Modi highlighted Vajpayee’s role in providing stability to a politically turbulent India during his tenure as Prime Minister from 1998. He credited Vajpayee for leading India into the 21st century through progressive initiatives in information technology, telecommunications, and infrastructure, including the Golden Quadrilateral project and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Modi described Vajpayee as a “statesman” whose governance brought economic reforms, strengthened India’s global standing, and improved connectivity across the nation.

The Prime Minister also praised Vajpayee’s leadership during the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests. These tests, conducted soon after Vajpayee assumed office, were met with international sanctions, but Vajpayee’s government stood firm, asserting India’s right to safeguard its sovereignty. PM Modi called this a defining moment that showcased Vajpayee’s resilience and vision. Modi also touched upon Vajpayee’s dedication to democracy, highlighting his decision to step down in 1996 instead of resorting to “horse-trading,” and his ability to bring together diverse parties under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

PM Modi reflected on Vajpayee’s pride in Indian culture, noting his historic speech in Hindi at the United Nations as India’s External Affairs Minister. Vajpayee’s literary contributions as a poet and writer were also celebrated, with Modi stating that his words continue to inspire generations. Modi concluded by urging the nation to follow Vajpayee’s principles of good governance and unity, emphasizing the former leader’s lasting impact on Indian politics and society.
