Parliament witnessed another turbulent day during the Monsoon Session on Tuesday as both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha experienced multiple disruptions due to protests by Opposition members. The Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026 introduces stricter rules for delayed registration of births and deaths. Under the proposed law, registrations delayed by more than two years will require approval from a First-Class Judicial Magistrate, replacing the existing system where executive magistrates could authorize such registrations. For delays between one and two years, approval from the District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, or Executive Magistrate will continue to be required. The government said the amendment aims to strengthen the verification process and prevent misuse of delayed registrations.

Throughout the day, Opposition leaders demanded discussions on several national issues, including allegations related to Ram Temple donations and police action against student protesters. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other Opposition leaders called for detailed debates in Parliament, while Congress MP Pawan Khera urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the House. Amid the political standoff, the government completed legislative business by passing key Bills before both Houses were adjourned, setting the stage for another likely confrontational session when Parliament resumes.
