Asaduddin Owaisi, President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad ul Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on September 22, stating that women have had reservation in the Waqf Board since 2013. Owaisi emphasized that there are no restrictions on including Pasmanda Muslims in the Waqf Board, questioning the BJP’s motives.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh suggested that poor Muslim women and Pasmanda should have representation in the Waqf Board, sparking Owaisi’s response. Owaisi pointed out the hypocrisy, highlighting that the Bihar Hindu Religious Trust Act 1950 does not provide roles for women or reservations for backward classes. He asked if the BJP would amend this act, challenging their claims of supporting Pasmanda Muslims.
[news_related_post]Owaisi’s criticism comes amid the controversy surrounding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which proposes changes to the Waqf Act, 1995. The bill aims to address issues related to State Waqf Boards, the Central Waqf Council, and registration and survey of Waqf properties.
