One Terrorist Killed in Ongoing Anti-Terror Operation in Kulgam, Third Encounter in a Week

Security forces have neutralized a terrorist in an ongoing anti-terror operation in the Akhal area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir. According to Army’s Chinar Corps, the encounter began on Friday evening (August 1, 2025) and continued through the night with intermittent and intense firefights. In a post on X, the Army confirmed, “One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues.” The encounter saw active participation from the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), and the CRPF, who launched a joint search and cordon operation after receiving intelligence inputs about terrorist presence.

This marks the third major encounter in Jammu and Kashmir in just one week. So far, six terrorists have been killed in these operations across the Valley. Notably, among the slain militants were the three involved in the recent deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, underlining a significant counter-insurgency breakthrough for the security establishment. The intensified combing operations reflect a renewed push by the forces to root out remaining terrorist elements from densely forested and rural zones of south Kashmir, where militant groups have historically tried to regroup.

The ongoing encounter in Kulgam comes amid heightened security vigilance across the region in anticipation of possible militant activity. Officials believe recent infiltration attempts and attacks indicate an effort by terror groups to destabilize the region ahead of key political and religious events. The operations are being conducted with precision to minimize collateral damage and avoid civilian harm. With one militant down and others potentially holed up in the area, the security forces remain on high alert as they continue the operation, combing through dense terrain to ensure the complete neutralization of the threat.
