KTR Challenges Congress on Power and Loan Waivers Amid Rythu Bandhu Debate

BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has thrown a bold challenge to the Congress government in Telangana, stating that all BRS MLAs will resign if the Congress can prove its claims of providing 24-hour electricity to farmers or fully waiving farm loans. Speaking during a debate on the Rythu Bharosa scheme in the Telangana Assembly, KTR criticized the Congress for spreading “false claims” and failing to effectively implement farmer-centric policies like Rythu Bandhu, which was launched by the previous BRS government. He emphasized the significant growth in cultivated land and the reduction in farmer suicides during the BRS regime, contrasting it with the Congress’ alleged failures.

The debate witnessed heated exchanges as KTR accused Congress of failing to extend promised benefits under Rythu Bharosa and challenged Congress Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to substantiate claims of uninterrupted power supply. KTR also offered to visit villages to verify whether Congress had waived 100% of farm loans, asserting that his resignation and political retirement would follow if proven wrong. Highlighting the success of the Rythu Bandhu scheme, KTR noted an increase in the cultivated area from 1.41 crore acres in 2019-20 to 2.04 crore acres in 2020-21. He also pointed out the drastic decline in farmer suicides from 11.1% to 1.5% under BRS governance.

The discussion extended to Mission Bhagiratha, with allegations of corruption and counterclaims about its achievements. Congress leaders accused BRS of mismanagement, while BRS leaders, including Harish Rao, defended the program’s implementation. KTR demanded an extended Assembly session to debate key issues like electricity, irrigation, and Mission Bhagiratha, asserting that farmers’ welfare must remain a priority. As the two parties continued their war of words, the focus on rural development and transparency in governance took center stage in Telangana politics.
