The Karnataka government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate alleged irregularities in Covid-19 purchases and spending during the BJP’s 2019-2023 rule. The decision was made based on retired High Court judge Michael D’Cunha’s interim report, submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on August 31. The report estimated irregularities of ₹7,223 crore.
The SIT will focus on cases with criminal intent, while a cabinet sub-committee will examine administrative malpractices without criminal intent. Law Minister H.K. Patil stated that recovery proceedings will begin immediately, with recommendations to recover ₹500 crore from those involved.
