The conflict between the United States and Iran intensified on Tuesday as both sides exchanged fresh military strikes for the tenth consecutive night. According to Reuters, US forces carried out attacks on military targets in southern and western Iran, including missile launch sites, drone facilities, command centres and air defence systems. Explosions were reported near Shiraz, Konarak, Chabahar and Khorramabad, while the US said the strikes were in response to the deaths of American soldiers. Meanwhile, the US State Department issued a worldwide security alert for American citizens, citing escalating tensions across the Middle East.
Iran responded by launching attacks on what it described as US-linked military and strategic sites in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. Iranian state media claimed that facilities associated with US forces, including accommodation areas at Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa Air Base, were targeted, while the Revolutionary Guards also announced drone attacks on American military bases in Kuwait and a US site in Jordan. Jordanian authorities said their forces intercepted several Iranian drones before they reached their targets. Reuters reported that some of these claims could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate confirmation from the US military or Gulf nations regarding the reported strikes.
The widening conflict has also increased concerns over global energy security and international shipping. A commercial tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was reportedly struck by an unidentified projectile, forcing its crew to abandon the vessel, while Iran claimed two oil tankers caught fire during transit through the strategic waterway. The Iran-aligned Houthi movement has threatened a naval blockade targeting Saudi-linked shipping, raising fears of disruptions to global oil supplies. Despite the escalating violence, diplomatic efforts are reportedly continuing, with mediators proposing a temporary ceasefire and regional leaders engaging in talks aimed at preventing the conflict from expanding further.
