A peaceful Pro-Palestine rally in Hyderabad turned tense on Tuesday, October 7, after police detained several demonstrators near VST X Road. The protest, organized by the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanction (BDS) movement, was intended to march toward Indira Park in solidarity with the people of Palestine. However, the Hyderabad police intervened mid-way, citing lack of prior permission and traffic obstruction as reasons for preventive custody. Eyewitnesses reported that protestors were carrying placards and chanting slogans in support of Palestinian freedom when the police forcibly stopped them.

Following the detentions, the BDS movement issued a strong statement criticizing the Telangana government and accusing it of hypocrisy. The group alleged that the Congress-led state administration, despite expressing sympathy for Palestine in public forums, exposed its “true character” by suppressing a peaceful demonstration. The statement further read that the government’s actions reflect “cowardly tactics” that cannot silence “justice-loving people” advocating for human rights and global solidarity.

The Domalguda police, however, clarified that the protestors were taken into preventive custody purely for maintaining public order and were released shortly after verification. “All detainees have been released,” a police official confirmed to The Siasat Daily. The incident has sparked conversations across social media, with citizens debating the limits of free expression and the government’s handling of peaceful protests in Hyderabad.
