Hyderabad Clash Over ₹1.22 Cr Dues Turns Fatal at Mehdipatnam Function Hall

A routine inspection by Telangana Housing Board officials turned tragic in Hyderabad’s Mehdipatnam area on Saturday, July 26, after a violent clash broke out at the MP Garden Function Palace. The dispute stemmed from a pending payment of ₹1.22 crore in dues owed by the function hall. When officials arrived at the premises to initiate property seizure proceedings, they were reportedly confronted by bouncers hired by the tenant, resulting in a tense argument that quickly escalated into physical violence.

During the altercation, R Jagadishwar Rao, an Assistant Estate Officer with the Housing Board, collapsed at the scene and was later declared dead. Initial reports suggest that the stress and aggression during the scuffle may have caused his death. Eyewitnesses claim that the bouncers attempted to obstruct the officials from carrying out their duties, leading to a chaotic confrontation inside the premises. The exact cause of Rao’s death is under investigation, with postmortem and forensic reports awaited.

The incident has shocked local residents and triggered a wider probe by the Asif Nagar police. Officials have sealed the function hall as part of the legal proceedings and confirmed that further action will be taken against those responsible for obstructing government operations. The Telangana Housing Board has also condemned the use of force against its staff and assured that steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. Authorities are examining whether the incident reflects a pattern of resistance against dues recovery efforts across the city.
