A Hindu outfit, Rashtriya Sewa Sangathan, staged a protest outside the Berinag SDM’s office in Uttarakhand, alleging that an abandoned house had been illegally converted into a mosque. The protesters demanded the removal of the mosque, claiming it was being used for offering Namaz. According to locals, the house has been used by around 100 Muslim families for prayers over the past 25 years.
The district magistrate, Vinod Girish Goswami, ordered an inquiry into the allegations after receiving a memorandum from the organization. The protesters threatened to launch a nationwide agitation if the mosque continues to operate. Interestingly, a case has been registered against the outfit’s members for promoting enmity between religious groups.
