A suspected gang of five men carried out coordinated ATM robberies in Kamareddy town of Telangana, using a gas cutter to break open two machines and stealing cash worth nearly ₹39 lakh. The incidents occurred within a short span, indicating prior planning and familiarity with the locations. In Arya Nagar, the gang targeted a DCB Bank ATM, cutting it open and removing around ₹30 lakh. Police said that due to the intense flames generated by the gas cutter, a portion of the cash inside the machine was partially burnt during the heist.
In a separate but related incident, the same gang reportedly struck an SBI ATM in Sai Nagar, again using a gas cutter to force entry and looting approximately ₹9 lakh. Following the twin robberies, the registered separate cases and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from both ATM kiosks and nearby establishments is being examined to identify the suspects, trace their movements, and establish whether the gang is linked to similar crimes in other districts.
Kamareddy Superintendent of Police personally visited both crime scenes, inspected the damaged ATMs, and reviewed the preliminary evidence collected by investigators. He directed officers to intensify the probe and prioritise the identification and arrest of those involved in the robberies. Police officials said special teams have been formed and surveillance has been tightened, as the use of gas cutters and the scale of the theft point to an organised gang with experience in ATM burglaries.
