Delhi High Court upholds Rajpal Yadav’s conviction in cheque bounce cases

The Delhi High Court on Friday upheld the conviction of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in multiple cheque bounce cases and sentenced him to three months of imprisonment. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma passed the order while hearing seven separate complaints filed against the actor. Along with the jail term, the court directed Yadav to pay compensation exceeding ₹1 crore to the complainant in each of the seven cases, reinforcing the legal consequences of financial defaults under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

During the proceedings, the High Court noted that nearly ₹2 crore had already been paid by Rajpal Yadav and clarified that the amount would be adjusted against the compensation ordered by the court. The ruling came after the court found no reason to interfere with the conviction recorded in the cheque dishonour cases. However, the detailed judgment explaining the court’s reasoning is yet to be released.

The court also granted Rajpal Yadav two months’ time to approach the appropriate appellate court if he wishes to challenge the verdict. Until then, the conviction and sentence remain in force subject to any further legal relief. The case marks another significant development in the long-running legal dispute involving the actor, with the High Court affirming the seriousness of cheque dishonour offences and the importance of financial accountability under the law.
